Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) protects the Rwandan portion of the Virunga massif, a chain of five dormant volcanoes rising to over 4,500 m. The park shelters roughly one-third of the world's critically endangered mountain gorillas across a dozen habituated family groups. Beyond gorillas, visitors can track the charismatic golden monkey, hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke to gaze into its crater lake, or visit the research cabin where Dian Fossey dedicated her life to gorilla conservation. Dense Hagenia-Hypericum forest gives way to bamboo zones and open subalpine moorland, providing a spectacular backdrop for every adventure.
