Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park, covering roughly 1,020 km², is one of the oldest montane rainforests in Africa, estimated to be over two million years old. It is home to 13 primate species — including chimpanzees and 400 colobus monkeys that swing through the canopy in spectacular troops — as well as more than 300 bird species, many endemic to the Albertine Rift. The famous Canopy Walkway stretches 160 metres above the forest floor, offering a heart-pounding perspective of the jungle below. Numerous trails wind through the forest to waterfalls, crater lakes, and ancient tea plantations that border the park edge.
